Nao Jinguji Interview: The Virgin-Debut Star on BL, Omegaverse and Anime Obsession
Nao Jinguji's movies drew 18,061 page views and 7,728 downloads on our sites in the four weeks to October 24, 2026. She debuted in 2017, and her first shoot was also her first time: she has said she was still a virgin when she filmed her debut. Nine years on she is still one of the most popular actresses on our sites.
Away from work, she is a self-described otaku who lives for anime and BL (boys' love). In this interview from the street-culture series "Girl Meets Street", she talks about the anime that hooked her, the BL genre she loves most, how she spends her days off and the YouTube channel she started with friends.
From not caring about fashion to LOVELESS
Interviewer:- Today's shoot was in street-style fashion, but what kind of clothes do you usually wear?
Nao Jinguji:- Usually I wear a lot of casual clothes like sweatshirts and denim. Sometimes I also wear tight-fitting dresses and girly outfits. Actually, I originally wasn't very interested in fashion, and I only started paying attention to it after graduating high school and coming to Tokyo. Since then, I often wear brands like LOVELESS and ROYAL PARTY.
Becoming an otaku
Interviewer:- How did you spend your high school days?
Nao Jinguji:- From high school I got hooked on anime and BL (boys' love) and devoted myself to otaku activities (laughs). Recently, Demon Slayer was really interesting. At first I didn't like the art style much because it was unusual, but as the story went on I got drawn in more and more. When the anime finished airing, I was so curious about what happened next that I looked it up without caring about spoilers. That's how hooked I am.
Her all-time favorite anime
Interviewer:- Demon Slayer's popularity these days is incredible. By the way, what is your favorite work?
Nao Jinguji:- If I had to pick one, maybe Slayers. Other old anime I watched, like Mamotte Shugogetten! and Inuyasha, also left an impression on me. At the time I hadn't gotten into anime yet, but I have memories of watching them with my older brother and my aunt, so they're works I've always loved. I miss recording them on VHS and watching them over and over...
Interviewer:- What genres do you like?
Nao Jinguji:- Mostly anime based on shonen manga. I hardly watch romance. I do watch BL, though.
Why omegaverse is the best
Interviewer:- I'd also like to ask about the appeal of BL.
Nao Jinguji:- In BL there's a genre called "omegaverse," and it's the best. Omegaverse is a setting where some men can get pregnant, so men can marry each other and have children. It means your favorite characters can marry each other and have kids. The idea of my fave and my fave's child is just too precious, and it really fuels all kinds of fantasies.
Days off: movies alone and SurfFit
Interviewer:- What do you do on your days off?
Nao Jinguji:- I'm usually either watching anime or reading BL. I often go to the movies alone. Not anime movies: I just drop by a theater and watch whatever is showing. Recently I saw Doctor Sleep, Joker and Frozen 2. I also go to SurfFit, which a makeup artist introduced me to. It's a surfboard on top of a balance ball, and just standing on it without wobbling is a pretty good workout. I've only done the beginner course so far, but I sweat a lot. Everyone does it together to music, so even when it's tough, I have no choice but to keep going... We all do our best (laughs).
Jin-tube: "Reclaiming Our Youth"
Interviewer:- So while you watch anime and read BL, you also have an active side, going to movies and exercising.
Nao Jinguji:- I also run a YouTube channel called "Jin-tube." I make it with friends from work I get along with, under the theme "Reclaiming Our Youth." We get together on days off, and the usual pattern is to go drinking afterward (laughs).
Interviewer:- How do you come up with the ideas?
Nao Jinguji:- About half are my ideas, and the rest we come up with together. We spent about five hours coming up with 100 ideas at the start, and the first three videos we posted are all footage of our planning meetings.
One-Person Olympics and a trip to France
Interviewer:- Of the videos you've filmed so far, is there one that left an impression on you?
Nao Jinguji:- One where we ran up a slope as hard as we could. We ran up it so many times that it was pretty tough. As for upcoming ones, "One-Person Olympics," where I do Olympic events alone, is going to be a real hassle (laughs).
Interviewer:- Do you have any goals for your YouTube channel?
Nao Jinguji:- Not really, but the 100th video is tentatively planned to be "Go to France," so it would be great if we could actually go (laughs). I want to visit Mont Saint-Michel and take my time sightseeing in the French countryside. I hope I can keep doing YouTube in a relaxed and fun way.
